Shanker receives more endorsements form Navajo Nation
By Wally EdgeThe AZ-1 Democratic primary is turning out to be a contest of Ann Kirkpatrick, her war chest, DCCC support and establishment endorsements from the likes of Gov. Janet Napolitano, Congressman Harry Mitchell and Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords vs. Howard Shanker and his Indian reservation support.
Shanker has announced he received two additional resolutions from the Indian Wells and Oak Springs Chapters of the Navajo Nation. In addition, July 22 at the Navajo Nation Council meeting, some 50 Delegates signed a letter of endorsement for their support of Shanker in the First Congressional District race.
Shanker previously received endorsements from all three agencies of the Navajo Nation in CD-1, including the Ft. Defiance, Western and Central Agencies. In addition, Shanker has been endorsed in the Navajo Nation by the following Chapters: Tuba City, Bird Springs, Cameron, Coal Mine Canyon, and Fort Defiance. The Dine Hataathlii Association, a prestigious organization of more than 300 Medicine Men and Women, endorsed Shanker this spring, the first time they have ever endorsed a political candidate.

What a bigot
You can shove your thoughts that being born here in AZ makes you better at anything. That means that 75% of those of us in Arizona are less than Ann Kirkpatrick. Screw that crap. Get a grip! Experience counts and this little tiny LD that she was elected to is a backwater community compared to the rest of the nation. Poverty with a view. She is a parent, but not that great of one since her own kids strayed from the message of just say no to drugs. Don't go there.
This woman you are bragging about deserves no praise, nothing. The party picked her because she takes orders but can't think for herself.
I would never admit that I was born, raised and never went beyond that same area. It shows her lack of imagination, talent, and growth.
Howard is the only choice.
Not Complicated at All
some think its not a big deal to be born, raised, and to have raised kids in the district but it is. we can all learn about experience but it doesnt quite sink in when you learn it first hand, we can all hope to be sympathetic and understanding of the plights and struggles of others, but what cant be replaced, learned, or taught is the experience of living it.
however, ann not only has lived it she has represented people that have lived it their whole lives. united way, prosecutor, legislator, mother, and daughter.
money, well money is a factor and i dont understand why ann gets knocked for raising it. theres no choice once the general comes around we need to be able to keep the republicans out of this district.
so, why all the criticism? she has more donors, contributions, and money than the other candidates. its all part of the process. and when she could she did participate in clean elections and would support a federal clean election plan but there is none.
shanker, titla, lets unite behind kirkpatrick and take back this seat.
Hard to Tell
This race has turned out to be very complicated. I would have thought with her war chest of funds Kirkpatrick would be a shoe-in, but everyone I talk to hopes that Shanker ends up winning.
The other thing that sort of blows my mind is how important the $$ is. I, too, was surprised at the margin between Kirkpatrick's fundraising and then Shanker and Titla, who raised hundreds of thousands less this past quarter. It's got me thinking, why do we think the candidate with the most money is the best candidate?
The problem is
that Cordova was running in an off-year, while Shanker is running in a Presidential year. Navajo Nation President and Tribal Council are elected in off-years. As such, Cordova benefited from an over 70% turnout on the Navajo Nation. Shanker would be lucky to get half that.
I'm behind Howard all the way, but even I've gotta admit his fundraising total this quarter was just anemic. I'm really disappointed -- I think he'd make a much better Congressman than Kirkpatrick, even though she's my second choice of the four candidates.
