First District Congressional candidate Howard Shanker has been very verbal over the last few months about the “anointment” of Ann Kirkpatrick as the nominee. Ann Kirkpatrick has received from support many Democratic leaders including the DCCC. Shanker has talked a lot about an open process and not letting the insiders determine the candidate. But one of Shanker’s supporters is behind the effort to remove fellow CD1 candidate Jeffrey Brown from the ballot.
Stanford Lerch of of Lerch & De Prima PLC Attorney’s (office in Phoenix, Arizona) is challenging the signatures of Brown and trying to prevent him from being added to the ballot. Lerch is not exactly a neutral observer in the process. Lerch donated $500 to Shanker’s campaign.

CD1 Stink Bombers
Hold your noses because while the Republicans are ready to rumble, we are still in the backroom tossing s*** at each other. Shame on you Kirkpatrick. Shame on you Shanker. Shame on you Brown. Shame on all the supporters of each of you. You sound like morons. While you argue and continue to act like schoolyard bullies and ask lawyer friends to do your dirty work, your true colors show through. You will do and say anything to get elected. Get over yourselves. Not one of you is worth our party's loss. And get real Shanker, none of us in CD1 are stupid enough to know that one of your top financial law buddy supporters didn't do your bidding. And Kirkpatrick, crack open a document or two on the district and get educated. Ignorance is not bliss. Believe it. GROW UP!
CD-1 Candidates
Had a chance to meet, talk to, and and hear all four Democratic candidates at a Verde Valley event yesterday (6/29). Shanker was the only one with a pulse. Brown was woefully uninformed. Kirkpatrick NEVER even attempted to answer a single question put to her. Mary Kim more or less blended into the backdrop. I was most disappointed in Kirkpatricks refusal to answer direct questions. Her website doesn't even have answers. She seems very able to describe the problems, but unprepared to offer creative solutions. I walked in predisposed toward Kirkpatrick and walked out ready to knock on doors for Shanker, who not only convinced me that he has the credentials and personality to excel in this position, but also made his vision and views and support for issues very clear.
Shanker would made us proud
OK – so Brown is not really in the running. I knew that when he didn’t even bother to show up for the Candidates Forum in my town. But we should be taking about who would be the best congressman for our district.
To those of us who have heard the candidates speak and have studied what they have done, it is clear that Howard Shanker is the person we should send to Washington. He solves problems by seeing solutions beyond what others have decided are insurmountable limitations. And he has the energy and toughness to work with others to make Congress serve the good of our nation and all of our citizens.
Shanker is getting a lot of grassroots support from ordinary citizens like me who realize that we need to elect our best candidate, not just a mediocre woman who has the most political contacts. We admire the way Howard Shanker cares about people and works effectively for good causes. We want him to represent us in Congress because we know he won’t forget us. Howard Shanker would stay in touch with us and help us with our local concerns as well as solving the broader problems faced by our country as a whole.
I urge my fellow voters in AZ District One to find out more about Howard Shanker www.shanker2008.com. If you do, I think you will support him. Howard Shanker would be a tremendous credit to our state and nation – someone we could be proud of - like Mo Udall.
Real Contest is Shanker vs. Anointed Loser
The real contest in CD 1 is between Howard Shanker and the latest plan by party insiders to lose the district. Take Paul Babbitt. Nice guy. Good Arizona Democratic pedigree. Not qualified to be the speaker at a grade school graduation. Unfortunately, Ann is no better on the stump.
No one seriously believes Jeffrey Brown has a chance. If there is a congressional district that is ready for a gay part-time taxi driver, it is not AZ-01. But if he has the signatures, he is entitled to be on the ballot. If he doesn't, he is not. The only unfortunate thing is that the challenge did not come soon enough, and a candidate without valid signatures is on the ballot.
The votes he does receieve will be from people thinking they are voting for long-time state senator/state representative Jack Brown. Confusing the voters does no one a service.
if you have nothing to hide.
if you have nothing to hide. why did the shanker team decide not to answer a call from politickeraz.com? speak up or exist in a cloud of doubt.
May the best person win.
May the best person win. This has nothing to do with Howard (its about the people), this has nothing to do with Ann (its about the people), this has nothing to do with Mary Kim (its about the people), nor Jeffrey Brown (now that he's still on the ballot).
I for one am tired for the rants that have carried on for too long about Ann from the Shanker folks. Shanker has no record to stand on but has some interesting ideas. As for Ann and Mary Kim they have strengths and weaknesses, too.
So, lets do what we all agree is best - let the voters decide. Then when its all over unite behind one candidate. period. no exceptions.
I collected Signatures for Shanker
Howard did not pay anyone to petition for him. This is true grassroots support.
Howard did not challenge Jeffry Brown.
Howard had the most valid petition signatures of any CD 1 candidate.
The trolls in this comment area are scared that their good old boy politics will come to an end when a true grassroots candidate wins.
If you look at Howard's website you will see why the crap-heads who have been in power in AZ are scared enough to start rumors, lies and name-call without a lick of proof.

Howard Shanker is a good person who will stop selling AZ to the highest bidder and the lowest morals.
if shanker was smart enough
if shanker was smart enough he would have challenged ann's too. but instead he went after the weak link in the primary. also, wait to see how many signatures shanker paid for during his collection phase. i think the strategy to pay for signatures paid off. he has more signatures - so he is sometimes smart.
As a Shanker insider I
As a Shanker insider I assure you that the campaign itself was not contacted regarding this action. It is a shame that that Mr. Lerch is spending his time challenging Jeff Brown's signatures, but he was not advised to do this by anyone from the Shanker campaign. If the Shanker campaign was going to challenge anyone's signatures it would be A.K.'s, and we would not challenge on the grounds of PO Boxes.
SHANKER=LOSER
What a snake shanker! I hope you guyz nomiante him for this years loser! This guy is sneaky sneaky sneaky. What a loser!
Shameless Lies from Wally and Shanker Hypocrite
I am sure that the Shanker Campaign has nothing to do with the challenging of Jeffry Brown's signatures.
I have never been more disappointed in anyone than in Anne Kirkpatrick. Before she ran for this seat I thought she was a nice person from my town who cared. Then she quit her seat to get involved in this congressional race and I have heard and found out some of the most dreadful things about her.
She has publicly stated that her platform was still being prepared by her "people" and could not yet answer a question in a debate.
Instead of spending any time at all discussing an issue in depth she has stooped to racism and lame rumor-mongering. The stench that leaks (or should I say oozes) from her campaign is disgusting small-minded hatefulness.
Then I come to find out that she has money ties to scum like Rahm Emannuel and I just about lose it.
I cringe at the thought of Kirkpatrick and Pelosi standing in front of congress and rubber-stamping this fascist Bush (or possibly McCain) agenda while looking at us democratic votes and saying "our hands are tied, we tried to stop him."
I would recommend that everyone in Arizona take a close look at Howard Shanker's website, and looking at Ann Kirkpatrick's website and you will see who is the clearly better candidate.

What's more interesting is
What's more interesting is the fact that the signatures are being challenged on the same grounds as the republican challenge of the Navajo candidates - that PO Boxes are inadequate addresses. Amazing, an advocate for Native Americans using the courts to prevent signatures from counting of Native American voters... the real shanker emerges...
long is wrong
Two wrongs dont make a right.
Brown is a joke- no proof
Brown is a joke- no proof before a public post! LOL Shanker isn't fit for this office as he is a foul person who probably would have lunch with Brown if they weren't opponents. Play it out and spend your time campaigning instead of blogging!
