Economic round table features Napolitano, Michelle Obama

DENVER -- Gov. Janet Napolitano participated in an economic forum Tuesday alongside potential first lady Michelle Obama.

The forum, called "All Boats Rising: Transforming the American Economy," was hosted by the AFL-CIO and the American Prospect. The discussion centered on how to create new broad-based economic opportunity across the demographic spectrum.

Today's convention schedule

The Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST today, with a theme of "One Nation."  Featured speakers include Michelle Obama, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), former President Jimmy Carter, and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who will introduce a tribute to her uncle, U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).

Michelle Obama event goes largely unnoticed

With most media attention focused on the president's fundraising stop with Sen. John McCain yesterday, Michelle Obama's Phoenix appearance went largely unnoticed. The First Lady hopeful was also in Phoenix, just a block from where Bush and McCain had been scheduled to appear, speaking to a klatsch of contributors at the Wyndham Hotel.

The Arizona Republic reports that Obama's visit was held in semi-secrecy, off-limits to reporters and kept successfully under the radar for the most part, unlike the Bush-McCain visit:

"On the same day presidential hopeful Barack Obama criticized John McCain for holding a private fundraiser in Phoenix that excluded the media, Obama's wife, Michelle, visited the same city and skipped reporters, as well.

Michelle Obama in Tucson

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's wife, Michelle Obama, will campaign for her husband  in Tucson today.    Michelle Obama will appear at the Fox Theatre, 30 N. Church Ave. Doors open at 3 pm with the  event scheduled to begin at 4. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue to battle in a close election in Arizona.
