Minutes after former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee dropped out of the race, Sen. John McCain mounted a Texas stage to address supporters, for the first time as his party's nominee.

McCain can't clinch until March 4

With Mitt Romney throwing his 286 delegates behind Sen. John McCain today, the Republican presidential frontrunner is now a mere 78 delegates shy of clinching the nomination.

However, his rival Mike Huckabee, who must win somewhere around 98% of the remaining delegates to take the nomination from McCain, has vowed to stay in the fight until the race is officially over.  read more »

McCain: GOP nomination within grasp

Arizona Senator John McCain spoke to cheering supporters in Phoenix just moments ago and declared that he was confident that the Republican nomination for president was near.

“Tonight we must get used to the idea that we are the frontrunner for the Republican nomination,” he said.

Huckabee nabs Arizona Right to Life endorsement

Arizona Right to Life has endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

“After reviewing all the candidates, we think Mike is by far the biggest activist to work for our cause and respect life,” said David Roney, Chairman of the Arizona Right to Life PAC. “He has the best record of being a pro-life activist among all the candidates."  read more »

AZ poll finds Clinton, McCain leading

A poll conducted by the Behavior Research Center finds Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain leading their respective fields in Arizona, the AP reports.

On the Democratic side, Clinton picks up 38%, followed by Barack Obama with 32% and John Edwards with 16%.

Arizona Right to Life endorses Huckabee

The Arizona Right to Life Committee has endorsed Arkansas Republican Mike Huckabee in the presidential preference campaign. The endorsement could give a small boost to Huckabee who trails badly in the latest Arizona polls.

McCain and Clinton lead in Arizona

Despite Governor Janet Napolitano’s endorsement of Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton still leads in the latest Arizona presidential preference poll by a margin of 30-17 with John Edwards garnering only 5%. When you factored in which way voters were leaning Clinton lead 45-17.

On the Republican side John McCain lead Mitt Romney 28% to 10% with 3% going to Mike Huckabee and 2% to Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul. When you include which way voters were leaning McCain lead 41% to Romney’s 18%.
