AZ Obama campaign makes push for early voting

The Arizona campaign of Barack Obama is pushing supporters to take advantage of early voting in the state.

An email sent out to Grand Canyon State backers of the senator from Illinois encouraged them to vote before Nov. 4, and get five friends to do the same.

"The more supporters who make their voices heard now, the more energy and resources we can devote to our get out the vote efforts closer to Election Day," wrote Kelly Paisley,  Arizona state director of the Obama campaign, in an email. "Vote early today and see if you can get five or more friends to vote early with you."

Obama opening first AZ offce

With less than 60 days left until the general election on Nov. 4, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is establishing a presence on his Republican rival John McCain's home turf.

Kelly Paisley, state director for the Obama campaign, announced late Monday night that Obama's Arizona headquarters will be opening on Wednesday. The office is located at the corner of Roosevelt and 6th St in Phoenix.

"Last week, John McCain and his surrogates attacked Barack Obama and mocked the power of community organizing," wrote Paisley in the invitation to the event. "Arizona may be John McCain's home state, but you can prove his cynicism wrong by demonstrating the strength of this grassroots movement on Election Day.

Supporters like you are building a powerful grassroots organization in Arizona that has already brought an unprecedented number of new voices into the political process," Paisley wrote.

The campaign kickoff starts at 4 p.m.

Obama building AZ organization

DENVER -- The veil has been lifted a little on the Obama campaign's plans for Arizona, and they will all flow from state director Kelly Paisley.

It has been known for some time, but not advertised or even officially acknowledged, that a state director has been chosen for the efforts of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign in the Grand Canyon State.

Thursday, Paisley and Gov. Janet Napolitano chief of staff Dennis Burke both acknowledged that she will command the nascent Obama organization, which is in the process of being staffed.
