Arpaio and Thomas not only ones telling Republic to take a hike

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas basically told the Arizona Republic to take a hike during the election campaign when they refused to meet with their editorial board. They are now not alone in that sentiment. Inside Edge heard a rumor earlier this week and has now confirmed the Arizona Republic has been trying to attend office  meetings around the state with real estate offices to sell advertising in a new magazine they are planning early next year. As the Republic has been calling for the meetings, they have repeatably been hearing a big no thanks. One office confirmed they told the Republic something along these lines.

You supported Prop. 100, which is not only a double taxation on homes, but would take money out of our pockets and food off our families tables and you want me to give you business. Maybe you didn't hear, the newspaper industry is dying.

Arpaio and Thomas: 'Why we could not and did not seek the Arizona Republic’s endorsement'

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, both of whom are seeking re-election this year, are not seeking the endorsement of the Arizona Republic, according to a commentary piece they jointly issued Thursday:

John McCain isn't going to be getting the New York Times endorsement over Barack Obama.  And we have a hunch that the Arizona Republic probably isn't going to be touting our re-election campaigns either.

And that's OK, because it would seriously confuse our supporters were we to seek the Republic's editorial endorsement, as candidates typically do.

This is why we took the unusual step of politely and respectfully declining the paper's recent offer to solicit its support by appearing before its editorial board with our opponents.
