 <title>More history to overcome for McCain</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2481/more-history-overcome-mccain</link>
 <description>If John McCain wins the presidency he will bring with him the first female vice-president. I also wrote on September 4th that the McCain-Palin ticket was the first presidential ticket to be comprised of two candidates from the West. If McCain is to be elected there is another trend he will need to overcome and that&amp;#39;s winning without a Nixon or Bush on the ticket. In 1928 Republican Herbert Hoover was elected President and and Charles Curtis was his Vice-President.
Fast forward 80 years and there have been 12 more Presidents elected to office including 5 Republicans. Of those 5 Republicans all of them had either a Bush or Nixon on the ticket.

 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2480/questions-still-unanswered-about-gop-donations</link>
 <description>When the Arizona Republican Party made their post  financial disclosure last week it showed they had raised $116,400 between the  dates of 8/14/2008 and 9/22/2008. Of the $116K, $105,000 was made over two  donations from something called &amp;quot;SCA.&amp;quot;  Since the report came out last  week we have been asked via email and IM &amp;quot;what is  SCA?&amp;quot;
We don&amp;#39;t know, and to date the party has yet to been willing to answer the question. So we ask again. What is SCA?
One donation form SCA was made in the amount of $80K on 8/21 and another for the amont of $25K on 9/10.
Name: SCAAddress: PO Box 32045, Mesa, AZ 85275Occupation: T/B/D, T/B/DMemo: Unincorporated Association of individuals

 <title>On day of debate, AZ-3 poll shows Shadegg by nine </title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2479/day-debate-az-3-poll-shows-shadegg-nine</link>
 <description>A new poll from the liberal blog site DailyKos.com, conducted by Research 2000, shows U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) currently besting challenger Bob Lord by nine points.
The poll, released Saturday, shows Shadegg up 48 points to 39 points over Lord. It has a margin of error of 5 points, and was taken among 400 likely voters in the 3rd Congressional District.
Shadegg, who is set to debate Democrat Lord and Libertarian candidate Michael Shoen Monday night on the PBS affiliate, KAET (Channel 8), was virtually tied with Lord in a poll taken over the same period and released by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. That poll showed Lord with a one-point lead, 45 percent to 44 percent, while Shoen drew five percent of the vote.

 <title>Republic endorses John Shadegg</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2476/republic-endorses-john-shadegg</link>
 <description>Saying &amp;quot;Shadegg is a throwback: A conservative lawmaker who acts like one. If the GOP had more like him, it wouldn&amp;#39;t be in the mess it is right now,&amp;quot; Arizona&amp;#39;a largest newspaper the Arizona Republic endorsed John Shadegg over his Democratic challenger Bob Lord in this weekend&amp;#39;s editorial. In a gushing editorial the paper says &amp;quot;if scientists were to construct a prototypical conservative lawmaker who could withstand the enormous pressures of Washington, D.C., to change, Shadegg would be the model for it.&amp;quot; What will conservatives do now, as they like to claim the Republic never endorses conservatives.

 <title>Legislative preview, House districts 11-15</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2474/legislative-preview-house-districts-11-15</link>
 <description>Legislative preview, House districts 11-15LD11This is the most likely pickup for the Republicans this year. Democrat Mark DeSimone resigned his seat this summer after his wife accused him of physically abusing her. The district has historically been a Republican district and Republicans will be making a hard push to assure both seats are returned to the caucus.

 <title>New DCCC poll shows Lord leading Shadegg 45 to 44, Shadegg campaign disputes</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2473/new-dccc-poll-shows-lord-leading-shadegg-45-44</link>
 <description>The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today released a new Anzalone Liszt Research poll conducted October 6-8 that shows Democratic challenger Bob Lord leading Republican Congressman John Shadegg by 45 to 44 percent with a 4.9% margin of error. The DCCC has recently started pouring money into the 3rd Congressional District.
The Shadegg campaign disputes the claims and says their internal polling shows them with a comfortable lead.

 <title>Trying something new... biased views from the debate...</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2472/trying-something-new-biased-views-debate</link>
 <description>Inside Edge is trying something new today. Congressman Harry Mitchell and challenger David Schweikert debated today at the Mesa Country Club. I contacted two regular emailers to Wally Edge, both who live in Mesa, and asked them to both attend and submit one paragraph on their thoughts about the candidate of the the opposing party and a comment about their candidate if they chose. The only rules are to keep it short and I would not publish any personal attacks such as &amp;quot;he is so stupid, how could they choose him.&amp;quot;  So here is our first edition of the man on the street opinion. We may or may not do this again in the future depending on the reaction. So if you like it let me know, and if you don&amp;#39;t also let me know. And if you want to be a contributor at a debate in the future email me and tell me.

 <title>Mitchell campaign claims new Schweikert ad violates FCC law</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2467/mitchell-campaign-claims-new-schweikert-ad-violates-fcc-law</link>
 <description>The campaign of U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-Tempe) is claiming that a new ad by Mitchell&amp;#39;s 5th Congressional District opponent, Republican David Schweikert, violates Federal Communications Commission rules, and the consequences could be costly for the challenger.
Mitchell&amp;#39;s campaign claimed in a press release that this latest ad by Schweikert violates the guidelines &amp;quot;outlined by the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which is commonly referred to as the McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Law,&amp;quot; by failing to include Schweikert&amp;#39;s image for at least four seconds at the end of the ad.
The FCC requires that broadcast stations provide qualified candidates, such as Mitchell and Schweikert, with the &amp;quot;lowest unit charge&amp;quot; available for advertising within 60 days of a general election, meaning that political candidates are entitled to pay as low a cost as any advertiser on a station as long as they follow certain guidelines.
Watch the ad here.
The release goes on to say, &amp;quot;Schweikert’s false and negative attack ad, which began airing Monday, is within 60 days of a general election and made a direct reference to Mitchell, does not display an image of Schweikert at any time during the last four seconds of the ad, and therefore does not meet the FCC’s &amp;#39;stand by your ad&amp;#39; requirements.&amp;quot;

 <title>DCCC ad merges Shadegg and Bush - literally</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2466/dccc-ad-seeks-fuse-shadegg-and-bush-literally</link>
 <description>The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has seized on Pres. Bush&amp;#39;s low approval to attack U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) by actually morphing the long serving 3rd Congressional District Republican into the president over the course of their new ad.
The ad starts with a still photo of Shadegg on a television screen, and while the announcers read claims that Shadegg has &amp;quot;voted with Bush 90 percent of the time,&amp;quot; &amp;quot;stood by while Bush allowed Wall Street to ruin our economy,&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;promoted the Bush plan to privatize Social Security,&amp;quot; Shadegg&amp;#39;s features reconfigure into Bush&amp;#39;s.

 <title>Shadegg apologizes for use of vet&#039;s image in ad</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2465/shadegg-apologizes-use-vets-image-ad</link>
 <description>U.S. Rep. John Shadegg (R-Phoenix) has sent a letter of apology to a veteran upset over the use of his image in a Shadegg campaign ad.
&amp;quot;I have never supported you and I never will,” said Constantine O&amp;#39;Neill, a World War II veteran and former POW, at a press conference from the campaign headquarters of  Bob Lord, Shadegg&amp;#39;s Democratic opponent in the 3rd Congressional District. “I could never support someone who doesn’t represent my values or the values of veterans.”
O&amp;#39;Neill said the same in a letter to Shadegg, in which he demanded the ad be pulled and an apology be issued.

 <title>Romley endorses Nelson, cites &#039;McCarthyism&#039; under Thomas</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2464/romley-endorses-nelson-cites-mccarthyism-under-thomas</link>
 <description>PHOENIX -- As was widely anticipated, former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley endorsed Tim Nelson over sitting County Attorney Andrew Thomas in the race for the position Romley held for 16 years.
At a press conference convened outside the county attorney&amp;#39;s office in downtown Phoenix Thursday, Romley, a Republican who backed Thomas in his first bid for county attorney in 2004, announced he was supporting Democrat Tim Nelson, praising Nelson&amp;#39;s qualifications and criticizing the incumbent.
&amp;quot;Initially, I did not have any intentions to endorse a candidate in the Maricopa County attorney&amp;#39;s race,&amp;quot; said Romley. However, he said, &amp;quot;too many disturbing phone calls&amp;quot; from area law enforcement officials regarding Thomas&amp;#39;s policies led him to back his opponent.
&amp;quot;I am formally endorsing Tim Nelson,&amp;quot; said Romley.

 <title>Legislative preview, House districts 6-10</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2463/legislative-preview-house-districts-6-10</link>
 <description>Legislative preview, House districts 6-10
LD6Currently held by two Republicans, Doug Clark, who is moving on and Sam Crump, who is seeking another term. Crump is popular in the district and should easily be the top vote getter in LD6. History shows in this district if you have a R after your name you should be a shoe-in for the seat which is good news for Carl Seel, who defeated Tony Bouie in a heated primary battle.

 <title>UPDATED: Giffords denounces DCCC ad</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2462/giffords-denounces-dccc-ad</link>
 <description>U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson) has denounced a new ad from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that hit the airwaves in the 8th Congressional District Wednesday, and called for its removal.
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;quot;I denounce the latest advertisement from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee towards my opponent Tim Bee that began on 10/08,&amp;quot; said Giffords in a press release. &amp;quot;Personal attacks have no place in this campaign.&amp;quot;
The ad goes after state Sen. Pres. Tim Bee (R-Tucson), who is challenging Giffords for her seat, due to problems related to the operation of a bus company Bee&amp;#39;s brother owns, which the ad states was the result of a &amp;quot;no bid contract,&amp;quot; implying impropriety on Bee&amp;#39;s part. It said Bee should be &amp;quot;ashamed&amp;quot; and that he is &amp;quot;out for himself.&amp;quot;

 <title>Legislative preview, House districts 1-5 </title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/wallyedgeaz/2461/legislative-preview-house-districts-1-5</link>
 <description>Legislative preview, House districts 1-5
LD1This district is strongly Republican and should see no change. Republicans Lucy Mason and Andrew Tobin are both running for re-election. The Democrats have put up only one candidate in hopes of garnering more votes and picking up one of the district seats, but Dennis Grittner is unlikely to get enough votes.

 <title>Korn releases audio of AZ-1 debate</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2456/korn-releases-audio-az-1-debate</link>
 <description>For those who didn&amp;#39;t attend the debate among the four candidates running for the 1st Congressional District open seat, Preston Korn has provided an audio recording of the proceedings.
Korn, who was a candidate in the 1st district Republican primary before backing out to support the failed bid of Sandra Livingstone for the nomination, recorded the Oct. 1 debate and has released it as an MP3 to his supporters. Korn wrote that he did so because &amp;quot;many of you won&amp;#39;t get a chance to see or hear these candidates before the election.&amp;quot;
The recording can be heard here.
KNAU, the radio station of Northern Arizona University, which hosted the event, also has a version available on its website in three parts.

 <title>Peters spokesman: McCain request &#039;pure speculation&#039;</title>
 <link>http://www.politickeraz.com/evanbrown/2451/peters-spokesman-mccain-request-pure-speculation</link>
 <description>A spokesman for U.S. Transportation Sec. Mary Peters told PolitickerAZ.com that Peters is not currently thinking about staying at her post under a John McCain administration, nor about a gubernatorial run, as reported in CQPolitics.com:
There is growing speculation McCain would ask his fellow Arizonan to stay on at least through the first half of next year, after which she wants to return to Phoenix to start her 2010 campaign for governor. In the Cabinet only two years, she appears to want more time to push her ideas, which include replacing the federal gasoline tax with a tax on drivers based either on how far they go or when they’re on the road.

Peters, who is the former director of the Arizona Department of Transportation, considered a run for Arizona governor in 2006, and is rumored to be taking a look at throwing her hat in the ring in 2010.
However, Brian Turmail, spokesman for the U.S. Department of Transportation, said of CQPolitics.com report, &amp;quot;you can put that up to a speculative piece.&amp;quot;
