Kirkpatrick takes AZ-1 primary

Former state representative Ann Kirkpatrick is the winner in the 1st Congressional District Democratic primary.

Republican David Schweikert appeared to be riding a campaign-spending edge and support among conservative-interest groups to a narrow victory over a crowded 5th Congressional District field during Tuesday's primary election.

The win would place the former state legislator and Maricopa County treasurer on a collision course with Democratic Congressman Harry Mitchell in the Nov. 4 general election. Pima County primary voters appeared to favor incumbents when choosing in the primary election for seats on the Board of Supervisors.

Martyn leads early returns in District 2 supervisor’s race

Bryan Martyn had a clear lead in the early returns for supervisor of the pivotal District 2 Board of Supervisors race in northeastern Pinal County. Martyn was leading Todd House and Danielle Tomerlin in the Republican race for a place in the Nov. 4 general election, which will be more work, he said.
