East Valley Tribune cutting back distribution

The East Valley Tribune is reporting they will cut back their services and produce a print edition only four days a week. The paper will also be cutting services to Scottsdale and Tempe. The move will allow the Tribune to cut 40% of their staff.

Proposition 300 not receiving much attention

There are numerous propositions on Arizona's ballot this November getting plenty of attention. One that is not receiving much attention is Proposition 300.

Proposition 300 would give lawmakers a long overdue pay-raise from $24,000 to $30,000. If passed, the pay increase would be the first raise lawmakers have received in a decade.

Since 1998 voters have had the chance to increase lawmakers pay four time and all four times the measure was defeated. The increase may be a hard sell for lawmakers this year as the Arizona budget once again faces a deficit in a lagging economy.

Big changes not likely in the state senate

Political observers on both sides of the isle seem to agree, this year's legislative races will be interesting to watch. On the surface, it looks like there will not be much change, but then again anything could happen this year. Voters are angry, but the question that remains to be unanswered is will they take that anger out on the Republican held legislature or the Democratic Governor?

Despite being outspent 6:1, Saban trails in cash-on-hand

Maricopa County Republican Sheriff Joe Arpaio holds a commanding lead with cash on hand against his Democratic opponent Dan Saban. Arpio, despite spending 6 times as much as Saban over the past month, holds a $390K to $46K cash-on-hand lead.

In new ad, Arpaio says Arizona Republic belongs in trash

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio continues to pick fights with those who buy ink by the barrel.  While most could not get away with it, Arpaio may be the one who can. In his latest ad, Arpaio defends his record then says don't believe everything you read.

Half the delegation change their vote

Half of the congressional delegation from Arizona changed their vote today from Monday's vote.

John Shadegg, Ed Pastor, Harry Mitchell and Gabrielle Giffords voted yes, while Rick Renzi, Trent Franks, Jeff Flake and Raul Grijalva maintained a no.

McCain lobbied Flake unsuccessfully

Politico is reporting that John McCain lobbied Jeff Flake to switch his vote.  Flake said the bill was better because of John McCain, but obviously not good enough to support.
