Kirkpatrick's 2Q take tops $300k

1st Congressional District candidate Ann Kirkpatrick has announced that her campaign raised nearly $330,000 between April 1 and June 30. The campaign said that left them with an on hand total of just under $700,000.

"Our record fundraising efforts coupled with our strong grassroots support show that [Arizonans] know Ann is the leader they are looking for," said Kirkpatrick adviser Michael Frias in a statement from the campaign. "We are going to keep gaining momentum. Along with the organization we have built throughout the district, these record fundraising totals position us well to keep winning new supporters for Ann through the primary and right up to Election Day in November."

Kirkpatrick's 1st quarter numbers put her well ahead of the pack in the Democratic primary, and 2Q saw her raise $70k more. The only other 1st district Democrat to release her numbers from the 2nd quarter is Mary Kim Titla, who raised over $50k.

Let's Not Make the 2004 Mistake Again

Here is why I am for Shanker:

(1) He supports universal healthcare. Kirkpatrick would insure healthcare only for children, ignoring that if their parents have no healthcare, it hurts the children, too.

(2) He has 16 years experience in federal energy and environmental law and understands how those policies can reinvigorate our economy. Kirkpatrick is learning these issues now after a career and a law practice devoted to state, not federal, issues.

(3) Howard Shanker understands and fights for civil rights for all, with the depth of knowledge of a constitutional lawyer. Kirkpatrick, and Mary Kim Titla, would impose their personal religious views on the constitutional rights of Americans who disagree with them.

(4) Shanker speaks the hard truths about immigration and has a practical plan to stop illegal immigration from undermining wages without making employers into cops or criminals. Kirkpatrick talks about the problems but has no solutions except the punitive, bureaucratic, employer sanctions she voted for in the legislature.

(5) Kirkpatrick’s appeal is that she was born in Arizona. Shanker has lived in Arizona longer than most Arizonians -- and is a hero to the first Arizona residents – the Native Americans (Democrats – read November voter turnout!). Shanker started his public interest law firm, serving the residents of CD-1, in 1993. Two years before that, Kirkpatrick withdrew to a private practice emphasizing wills and trusts. She emerged from that only for 18 months of an aborted term in the legislature (she resigned to run for Congress).

Ask: Who will best represent Arizona? – not, who was born here?

You have all got to be kidding.

I just want to remind all of you that this IS NOT a game of "Who Can Be More Liberal?"

While Shanker is busy practically making out with you so-called netroots Democrats, Kirkpatrick and her campaign staff are actually campaigning. Or did you forget that there is a general election to win against a reactionary corporate shill?

You say to look at the ActBlue page, but I've got some news for you that may shatter your imaginary world: NOT EVERY DEMOCRAT OR PERSON IN AZCD1 IS ON ACTBLUE.

It's not even a good sample of Democrats who use the Internet in CD1, because the vast majority of those don't ever go on Democratic websites for any reason.

Also, you can babble all you want about how playing the "I'm More Liberal" game will somehow win Shanker the election, but let me remind you all that in 2002, a similar "Every Other Democrat is a Republican" Democrat won the primary, and then lost the general election, WHILE POURING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF HIS OWN MONEY into the race-- and Shanker doesn't have that.

So you can go circle-jerk with all your supposedly Democratic-affiliated friends about how great it is that Howard Shanker will liberal one-up you on everything, but if he wins the primary--which he won't--prepare to watch this, one that is more or less already won by a Democrat, be given over to a corporate lobbyist who wants to rape the land.

act blue, try the fec reports....

act blue is just one place to donate, it is for people who donate through it with a credit card. it is NOT how you find out how many donors a candidate has. to do that, you have to go to their fec reports at fec.gov. if you were to do that you would see shanker doesn't have anywhere NEAR the number of supporters as kirkpatrick. kirkpatrick has more supporters AND they are confident enough in her to give more money. good try, howard.

Go to Act Blue and look at the facts

Go to AZ Congressional District 1 and find the man or woman in any down town diner across the district. You know the person the one who knows everybody in town and reads every newspaper and has a well thought out option on everything. Ask him or her about the up coming congressional race and what they think. Across the state you will hear the same answer, "Ann is a nice woman but not the best candidate, but she has the money. I'm not sure who will win but I'm with Shanker, The best candidate we've had in a long time." If you go to act blue you can see two big differences between the candidates, Ann has money, Shanker has supporters. Check out the two on your own and I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion most AZ Dems have, SHANKER 2008!

As the word gets out, Kirkpatrick goes down.

Kirkpatrick's got the big dollars up front, but as she's asked to perform on the trail, she's getting clobbered. Shanker has 2.5 times as many donors as she does -- they are just smaller amounts. Sound familiar?
Get with it and contribute to him now before it's too late to prevent Kirkpatrick from losing in November.

Kirkpatrick for Congre$$

Ah, don't we live in a great country? Big $ = Good Candidate.

Call me petty, but that's how we got into the hole we're in now-- by electing big money politicians. I've heard Kirkpatrick speak several times and she's all sound bites. She quit her job as a state legislator mid term to run for a higher, more prestigious office. Silly me, I'm still waiting for her to fulfill the promises she made when she ran to be my state rep.
