A Democratic primary in LD29 is now officially on. With state Rep. Tom Prezelski (D-Tucson) running again and state Rep. Linda Lopez (D-Tucson) termed out, there's room for one more Democrat on the ballot.
However, there are two Dems vying for the spot. Matt Heinz filed last week for the LD29 House race, and now that Daniel Patterson has become official as well, the fight is on in this reliably Democratic district.
Patterson is an ecologist and Democratic activist who has worked on the campaigns of numerous Democratic candidates.
Now, he is a candidate in the Democratic primary in Legislative District 29, which is currently represented by State Reps. Tom Prezelski and Linda Lopez.
"I'm in to win, to solve problems, help people and build bridges for change," said Patterson, who has filed his signatures with the Secretary of State and is now working to collect the necessary amount of $5 contributions to qualify for Clean Elections money.
He will face Matt Heinz, a Tucson physician, and Rep. Prezelski, who hasn't yet filed his re-election papers, for one of two spots on the ballot. So far, only one Republican, Bruce Murchison, has stepped up to take on the Democrats.
