Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-5) made an honest judgment to the Green Valley News about the intensity of the re-election bid he faces this year.
"I will have to say that it's going to be very difficult. I know it’s going to be hard, it’s going to take a lot of work,” he told GVN in an interview. He's still optimistic about his chances, though. "But I'm going to win," he added.
Currently there are six Republicans engaged in a primary fight to square off against Mitchell in the November 4 general election. They meet tonight at a candidate forum in Scottsdale - the first time since Susan Bitter Smith declared her candidacy, though she will not be participating.
For her part, Gabrielle Giffords (D-8) is facing a similar challenge in a different landscape. Her opponent is already set: State Senate President Tim Bee (R-Tucson).
