Rep. Jennifer Burns (R-Avra Valley) has decided against pursuing a fourth term, reported Tucson Weekly's blog. According to a press release from Burns:
"I can no longer afford the level of time and financial commitment required to be a representative. However, I will continue to be involved and hope those who follow will continue the obligation to join in the activities, learn what matters to the people in our communities, work collaboratively, and fight for Arizona’s future."
Burns's departure now leaves the entire LD25 field - both House seats and the Senate seat - without incumbents. The closest thing to an incumbent is Rep. Manny Alvarez (D-Elfreda), who is seeking the seat Senate Minority Leader Marsha Arzberger (D-Willcox) has termed out of.
On the Democratic side, former state House candidates Patricia Fleming and Richard Boyer are trying to keep one seat in their party's hands and net the other, while the sole Republican in the district to declare a candidacy so far is David Stevens.
