Harry Mitchell came under heat last week from a few of his CD5 potential general election opponents for missing an ethics vote. I decided to do a little research on attendance records for the 110th Congress to see just how often members from the Grand Canyon State missed session days in DC.
On the Senate side John McCain as expected has missed more than half the votes with 56% missed. McCain gets a pass because he is running for President and it is expected he will miss most of the votes as will his Democratic opponent. John Kyl did his best to make up for McCain’s absence by only missing 1.7% of the votes.
On the House side all members except Rick Renzi had stellar attendance records. Renzi, who had missed only 1% of the votes in the 109th Congress of course, is suffering because he is facing 35 federal indictments.
List of how often a vote was missed by Arizona Congressional members.
| Name | District |
% missed |
| Rick Renzi | CD1 | 7% |
| Raul Grijalva | CD7 | 3.6% |
| Gabrielle Giffords | CD8 | 3.3% |
| Jeff Flake | CD6 | 2.6% |
| Ed Pastor | CD4 |
2.1% |
| John Shadegg | CD3 | 2.1% |
| Harry Mitchell | CD5 | 1.9% |
| Trent Franks | CD2 | 1.7% |
